There are plenty of great things about researching the luxury market. Maybe the most fun about it is the emerging community.

What is still growing today was in its fledgling stages around 2011. This was the time when we started establishing the Luxury Research BrownBag at BaselWorld.

In 2011, I conceptualised the researcher-meeting and first implemented it at BaselWorld fair of 2012. We invited junior researchers (phd students, post-docs, assistant professors) to join the leading professional fair for luxury watches and jewellery hosted by the CEO of the exhibition company.

Subject of the Luxury Research BrownBag was the visit of the fair and a subsequent academic workshop. From this workshop emerged, among other things, a joint article by nine co-authoring event participants.

The most recent implementation under my supervision was in 2017, jointly with researcher colleagues of University of Basel, WHU Vallendar, the patronage of six professors and 35 participants from six European countries. Have a look at our report to get an idea of what we experienced and built. The Luxury Research BrownBag has been continued in March of 2018 by researchers of universities of Zürich and Lausanne.
